CLSU Alumni Association confers award to Dr. Thep Phongparnich

Dr. Thep Phongparnich, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture graduate Batch 1972 was conferred by the CLSUAAI the Gintong Butil Award for professional achievement. The Gintong Butil award is the highest award given to alumni who have distinguished themselves in various fields, created impact in their chosen fields and have contributed to the development and promotion of CLSU and the country.

His citation is as follows: He was recognized for his exemplary work performance as Professor and President of Maejo University (2002-2010), Chiang Mai, Thailand.

He was also recognized for his work experiences and academic performance which include: setting up the Plant and Animal Multiplication Division in the Office of Agricultural Research and Extension; Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Business; Vice President for Academic Affairs; Vice President for Special Institutional Affairs; and Committee Chairman and Designer of Maejo Hall of Fame Edifice and the MJU Clock Tower. He also served as Chairman of the Project to provide education in Community Development for 80 monks from the rural areas in Northern, Thailand in celebration of the 80th birthday of His Majesty, the King.

Awards and Citations garnered in recognition of his achievements were: From CLSU-Philippines: Outstanding Alumnus, 2005; Most Distinguished Alumnus in Education during Centennial Celebration of CLSU, 2007; and, the 2007 International Gusi Peace Award for Agricultural Education, Research and Extension. From other Countries: International Achievement Alumnus Award, Oklahoma State University, USA; International Achievement Award from Soka Gakai, International (USA); and, 2008 Most Distinguished Alumnus Award, Maejo University (Thailand).

The innovations and unwavering dedication as an educational administrator, researcher and development worker is indicative of the virtue and wisdom of a model CLSU Alumnus.

He received the award during a special convocation held at the RET Amphitheater on March 29, 2012. The conferment rites was led by Dr. Ruben C. Sevilleja, CLSU president, Dr. Romeo S. Cabanilla and Dr. Eliseo L. Ruiz, CLSUAAI and CAFI presidents, respectively. Among those who also witnessed the rites were alumni and officials from Maejo University, namely: Dr. Chalermchai, Dr. Sumkid, Mr. Pattara and Madam Diana. CLSU Administration Council, members of the faculty and staff, and Thai students, Board of Directors and Board of Trustees of CLSUAAI and CAFI, respectively and the director of the Alumni Relations Office.

Before the conferment rites, Dr. Thep’s room #212 at the Alumni Hostel was formally opened and turned over to the CLSUAAI.
